Ingredients

  • ketchup250 g
  • brown sugar or honey40 g
  • apple cider vinegar30 ml
  • mustard1 tbsp
  • Worcestershire sauce1 tbsp
  • smoked paprika1 tsp
  • garlic powder1/2 tsp
  • pepper
  • chilioptional 1 pinch

Method

  1. Stir everything together in a small pot, bring to a boil and simmer uncovered over low heat for 8-10 minutes until the sauce coats the spoon.
  2. Stir often, then taste and adjust.
  3. It thickens further as it cools.

Substitutions

Replace apple cider vinegar 1:1 with light balsamic, or 20 ml regular vinegar plus 10 ml water. Without Worcestershire sauce, use 2 tsp soy sauce and 1 tsp lemon juice. Smoked paprika can be replaced with regular paprika; you'll just lose the smoky note.

If you don't want to cook it yourself, a good store-bought BBQ sauce works too. Check the sugar and smoke level if you want it intense enough for pizza.

Storage

10 days refrigerated in a clean jar.
